A lovely little bit of folklore to this very fun necklace.
Based on the old nursery rhyme by Mother Goose, this sweet little boot opens up to reveal the little old woman that lived in a shoe with all her children.
"There was an old woman who lived in a shoe.
She had so many children, she didn't know what to do.
She gave them some broth without any bread;
Then whipped them all soundly and put them to bed."
While the origins and meanings of this nursery rhyme have been lost over time. Many attempts have been made to match the old woman with historical female figures who had large families, but the most popular theory is that this tale is about Queen Caroline and King George II.
The chain is 18 inches in length and both the pendant and chain are sterling silver. The hinge to the boot is in excellent condition for it's age and would make a wonderful whimsical addition to any jewellery collection.
